I don’t know about you but I find voicemail messages rather irritating and with Google Voice you need not receive one again. You get to keep your number, which is not the case with most services like this, and Google Voice will transcribe your message, not always word for word but definitely well enough for you to get the point of the message, and send you an e mail or SMS telling you what your message says. A remarkable piece of programming that will make plenty of people happy.
