LG Optimus

Announced in April, the LG Optimus (GT540) is an Android-based smartphone designed to cater to first-time users of smartphones by offering a user environment centred around ease and convenience. Automatic syncing with Google services and a number of prepacked Android applications make it simple for users to get started with a smartphone without worrying about getting everything set up and backed up. Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile, says the phone is designed for those who “want all the features of a smartphone without the complexity.” The LG Optimus is currently available in European phone deals in a number of colourations including white, pink, black, and silver, and should follow in other markets shortly.

The LG Optimus runs on the Android 1.6 OS, which grants access to a number of Google applications such as Gmail, Google Talk, Youtube, and Google Maps with a single login. Additionally, the Android Marketplace offers over 100,000 applications to allow you to customise the functionality and features of your mobile device to help you personalise the phone. The interface is also customisable, providing up to seven separate home screens that allow the user to arrange shortcuts to frequently-used applications as well as news and weather information. To further simplify the smartphone experience and cater to each user’s specific needs, the main menu can be personalised with up to 10 custom categories making it easier to navigate to what is most important to you. Compare LG Optimus contracts to cut down on your monthly phone bills.

The Optimus also simplifies multimedia and social networking—with the SN Manager, which offers integrated access to the most popular social networks allowing you to manage multiple accounts simultaneously. Read and update statuses on Facebook, Bebo, and Twitter accounts directly from the home screen in real-time, or search through friends’ status updates as you search through the contact list with multitasking. Likewise, the LG Optimus comes with a 3-megapixel camera with geo-tagging, auto face-tagging and face-to-action technology that makes it easy to capture and share images or video.
