New Samsung Galaxy Phones to Reach Wider Markets

Korean mobile phone leader Samsung continues to democratize the Android smartphone with a couple of new Galaxy models that bring the flagship Galaxy mystique to a wider market. Don’t expect them to sport the same SuperAMOLED 4-inch displays but for their lower prices, the recently released Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 and the soon to be out Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5 running the same Android 2.1 Éclair are sure to make a lot of budget-conscious smartphone users happy. Identical Features

They’re both quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G and dual band UMTS/HSDPA on 3G. Both use the same capacitive touchscreen with proximity and accelerometer sensors. Entertainment for both gets a stereo FM radio with RDS and the media players, 3.5mm headphone jack and A2DP. Both internal memory capacities are capped at 150 MB with microSD expandability for up to 32 GB.

Dissimilar Features

The more expensive Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 gets WiFi 803.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 compared with the regular WiFi without the “n” protocol as well as standard Bluetooth 2,1 with A2DP on the Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5. The cheaper Galaxy 5 gets a faster HSDPA speed at 7.2 Mbps compared with 3.2 Mbps on the Galaxy 3.

The Galaxy 5 has a larger 3.2-inch half-VGA display and multitouch compared with the 2.8-inch QVGA without multitouch on the Galaxy 5. . Imaging on the Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 gets a 3.2 megapixel autofocus shooter with geo tagging, face/motion detection and video recording at a mere QVGA resolution and 15fps frame rate. On the other hand, the Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5 gets a more basic 2 megapixel fixed focus shooter and nothing else. The Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 edges the Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5 with a DNSe sound enhancement feature. Talk time on the Galaxy 3 is 15 hours on 2G and 7 hours on 3G from a fully charged 1500 mAh li-ion battery while the smaller 1200 mAh on the Galaxy 5 gets a shorted 9.5 hours on 2G and 6.5 hours on 3G.
